I have 2 boars. I would like to see variant art for a 2nd boar. I don't mean the companion portrait at the top, the small thumbnail that's in combat, so that I can tell who is attacking who more easily. Thank you.

I'd like that too. Maybe by using something like the styles the emperators use to change the armors

Why not permit characters to "dye" companions. I'm sure this would reward even the developers who could examine the creative results!

Dyes seem like a genius idea. A simple color swap would do what I want, and aught to be easier from a technical standpoint.
